The Dunnottar Shawl is inspired by the spectacular architecture of Dunnottar castle in North East Scotland.  The stitch pattern reflects the fascinating masonry patterns within the castle walls.  Although now a ruin, the different sizes of granite stones and dividing blocks are clearly visible.  Similar masonry patterns, known as Aberdeen Bond, can be seen throughout the Northeast of Scotland.  This arrangement used alternate rows of large rectangular blocks and three vertically placed squared granite stones.

The Dunnottar Shawl by Emma Vining uses 2 skeins of The Scottish Festival of Yarn Clan 4-ply in the colour Anderson.  The pattern for this collaboration will launch on the Festival weekend and can be purchased either from Ravely or Payhip.
