Description

Lindsay studied Textile Design in the Scottish Borders and began her creative journey as a handloom weaver, progressing to hand spinning yarn to incorporate into her own home furnishings.  Following a funded residency in India, Lindsay returned home ready to independently explore indigo dyeing, block printing and simple Kantha embroidery.

Better known as The Border Tart, Lindsay produces her own range of natural yarns, fibres and threads dyed with her signature indigo and runs slow stitching workshops and retreats.

Boro is the age old Japanese art of mending textiles and is literally translated as “rags” or “scraps of cloth”. Lindsay Roberts (The Border Tart) will lead an introduction to contemporary Boro hand stitching on natural fabrics during which students will create a sampler sized piece which can serve as a framed work, table mat or feature panel in a larger item.

In this class students will learn:

  •   Fabric choices and placement
  •  Stitching styles, layouts and alternative colour selections from the traditional indigo hues

Materials

All materials will be provided but students are welcome to bring their own needles, embroidery threads, scissors and fabric scraps should they wish to.
