John Glen’s Classes: design your own shawl

John has been knitting for 47 years and designing his own knitwear since he was 15. Taught by his grandmother his skills in knitting and crochet have served him well both for the family and professionally over the years. He has retired from a full career teaching design and graphics and is now a well known podcaster as Beardychiel’s Knitting Banter as well as a designer of shawl and sock patterns. John is teaching at Perth for the second time as well as being a regular lecturer/tutor to his local SWI branches.

Design your own Shawl – £60

John will take his class on a theory-focused journey through the shawl design process paying close attention to selecting the best shape for your design, choosing the right design elements – such as lacework or textured stitches, colour selection depending on the overall effect you want to achieve, creating your own charts, swatching design panels and making a start on your shawl.  All participants will be given a range of hand-outs and outline shaping patterns which will help support them in their future design work.

Level:  Suitable for knitters who know the basics but want to develop into designing their own shawl patterns either for personal use or profit.

Materials: Needles and compatible weight of yarn to swatch and or start your design
