Description
Françoise Danoy is a bi-racial, multi-cultural, takatāpui crafter of colour who works to empower knitters – whom she calls Fibre Muses – by exploring the intersection of making with identity, so they can think deeply about why they create to make a transformational impact with their craft.
Françoise’s designs draw influence from her Māori heritage, where she transform the myths, legends, and other stories into stitches and connect them to the story of why we make. Through this recreation, her work aims to remember the past and strengthen the future for the Māori culture and people, while enriching the present knitting community and be a representative for the third-space generation.

Have you ever looked at your mountain-high stash of yarn and pondered all of the possibilities of creation that you could draw from it? Do you find yourself wanting to dive more deeply into expressing your colourful, eccentric and unique self through the magic of yarn?
In this class students will:
- Dive deep into the psyche of the Dreamer Fibre Muse and manifest her magic of self-expression through exploring the inter-play of colour, fiber, and texture, to inspire and delight her sensibilities and open your yarn world up to new methods and ways of self-expression.
- Create a simple stocking stitch “canvas” on which to experiment and play with different types of “paint brushes” to produce beautiful paintings and inspire your inner Dreamer Fibre Muse and give her new creative wings.
Materials
An assortment of fingering/4ply or DK weight yarns, approximate size needles for swatching (3.5mm – 4mm / 4-6 US, circulars are recommended) , pen or pencil and paper.
Skills
Students should be comfortable alternating between knit and purl stitches prior to attending this class.
